Meet Hannes
Hannes Wessels; MEd; MA
Hannes Wessels is a Therapist and registered Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA: PS 0131350). He completed his graduate & post-graduate studies at the University of Johannesburg & holds the following degrees: M.Ed. Educational Psychology (2015); MA; BEd(Hons)(Ed Psych); BA(Hons); BA; PGCE; TESOL(Wits).
As therapist, he works together with his clients to live rich & meaningful lives despite the obstacles & pain they might experience. His clinical work is focused on providing comprehensive psychological evaluations, primarily for the purpose of making sure that his clients are receiving the correct treatment plan or diagnosis, to move them forward in life. He provides a relaxed, safe, & supportive environment to his clients to help them explore the challenges they are facing.
Moreover, his approach is based on respect & collaboration. He provides his clients with a warm, gentle, open, compassionate, & non-judgmental space to help achieve their therapeutic goals.
He is especially interested in using evidence-based approaches to provide a quality service to his clients. Therefore, he has a special interest in:
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Processed-Based Therapy (PBT)
- Trauma Therapy (EMDR)
- Educational Psychological Assessments
- Life Design Career Counselling
- Psychometrics.

In addition to his work as a therapist, Hannes also provides training to other clinicians in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Career Counselling & Psychometrics (psychological assessments). He has also fulfilled lecturing roles in psychology (pre- & postgraduate) at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), University of Witwatersrand (Wits) & the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP). Currently, Hannes is the Chair-Elect for the Association for Behavioural Contextual Sciences of South Africa (ACBS South Africa), as voted by his peers.
As part of his passion for psychology and helping, Hannes has had the honour to provide his expert opinion on various radio & television shows which include 5FM, RSG, KykNet, eNCA, SABC News, Newsroom Afrika, Power FM, Kaya FM, Rise FM & Tygerberg FM.
One of the highlights of his career was presenting at the International Congress of Psychology in Yokohama, Japan. At the congress Hannes presented his dissertation titled: Exploring the use of Facebook as a tool to enhance the career construction journeys of Grade 11 adolescents at a high school. Which was later published in the South African Journal of Education.
